Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an imaging technique that, in contrast to computer tomography (CT), does not require ionizing X-rays or contrast agents that are harmful to the kidneys. In addition, the technology, which is based on the tissue-dependent relaxation times of the proton spin, provides a considerably higher soft tissue contrast. Hence, more illnesses can be identified earlier and with more accuracy and patient (as well as physician) is not exposed to the cancerogenic radiation with devastating long-term consequences.
